3A Western Slope recap Oct. 23, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Palisade, who took down 43rd ranked Palisade, 26-21. Mitch Whiteside threw for 148 yards and one touchdown, ran for 38 yards and caught one passes for 12 yards in the win.
Rifle extended the longest winning streak in 3A Western Slope this week by beating Steamboat Springs, 56-0. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Tallon Ralstin put up the best numbers through the air as Montezuma-Cortez fell to Moffat County. He finished with a total of four completions for 122 yards and two touchdowns. Ralstin's favorite target this week was Ryan Guerney, who caught two passes for 86 yards.
Chris Black was the best wideout in the league this week as Delta topped the Bulldogs. Black racked up five receptions for 137 yards. Ryan Whiteside helped Delta's passing attack out by catching three balls for 56 yards.
Ryan Moeller was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 158 yards on 12 carries as Rifle defeated Palisade. Teammate Kellin Leigh added to the ground attack by rushing for 91 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Travis Lundin of Glenwood Springs is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1291. He has also thrown four touchdowns. On the ground, Damon Wells' team's Moeller has rushed for 1791 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Black. The Delta star has 34 catches for 734 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Delta takes on the Bears. Ben Johnson's team is currently in fourth, while Rifle is in first.
Eagle Valley took down Battle Mountain 62-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
