Baseball Recap: Valley View Victorious

Valley View had won three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they bumped up to 11-9-1 to make it four. They had just enough and edged out the Hidalgo Early College Pirates 10-8. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-2 back in March.

Valley View got a massive performance out of Cesar Casas, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those four hits gave Casas a new career-high. Julio Sierra was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Valley View kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

As for Hidalgo Early College, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-13-2. Pirates fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against Valley View since Tuesday.

On Hidalgo Early College's side, David Martinez made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was Martinez's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Martinez, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one triple.

Looking ahead, Valley View will challenge Grulla at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Gators' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Hidalgo Early College, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on La Feria at 6:00 p.m. on the 21st.
