Basketball Recap: Loris Takes a Loss

Loris lost against North Myrtle Beach last Friday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Loris Lions were beaten by the North Myrtle Beach Chiefs 59-32. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Chiefs are ranked 15th).

Despite the loss, Loris saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Layna Hemingway posted eight points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Loris smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Loris has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season. As for North Myrtle Beach, the win keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.

Loris didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 37-26 victory against St. James on the 21st. As for North Myrtle Beach, they will take on Philip Simmons in a tournament on December 28th.
