Basketball Recap: Norfolk Collegiate Find Success

Norfolk Collegiate won the last time they faced Bayside and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Norfolk Collegiate Mighty Oaks escaped with a win against the Bayside Marlins by the margin of a single free throw, 47-46. The 47-point effort marked the Mighty Oaks' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Norfolk Collegiate's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gavin Wright, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 17 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Wright has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Burrough, who posted seven points along with seven boards and six steals.

The win (which was Norfolk Collegiate's fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-1. As for Bayside, they dropped their record down to 3-7 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Norfolk Collegiate will square off against Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bayside, they will take on Green Run at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Green Run will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Bayside surely won't give up without a fight.
