Softball Recap: Four Straight Home Wins for Homestead

Homestead hadn't done well against South Dade recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Homestead Broncos came out on top against the South Dade Buccaneers by a score of 9-6. For the Broncos, this counts as revenge for the 30-18 win the Buccaneers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Dy'Niyah Shaw spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Carla Romero, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-3. She has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last 11 times she's played. Deanna Jones was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Homestead's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for South Dade, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

Looking ahead, Homestead is taking a road trip to face off against Miami at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for South Dade, they will welcome Dr. Krop at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Dr. Krop has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.25 runs per game on average), something South Dade will no doubt try to take advantage of.
