Basketball Recap: North Star Cougars vs. Glendale Vikings
The North Star Cougars had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 55-43 victory over Glendale. Given North Star's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while the Vikings are ranked 638th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
North Star was led to victory by Brady Weimer and Andy Retassie. Weimer scored 21 points, while Retassie scored 14 points along with seven assists and four steals. Retassie hasn't dropped below three steals for three straight games. Ethan Smith was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with ten rebounds and three steals.
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Joey Kitko, who scored 14 points along with three steals. Kitko has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Landen Mcgarvey, who scored 12 points.
North Star has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for Glendale, they dropped their record down to 6-12 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.
North Star will face off against the Red Raiders at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Meyersdale has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 21. As for Glendale, they will be playing at home against the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
