Layton is 8-2 against Syracuse since February of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Layton Lancers will head out on the road to face off against the Syracuse Titans at 7:00 p.m. Layton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 12 games -- so hopefully Syracuse likes a good challenge.
Last Friday, Layton beat Fremont 58-45. Given the Lancers' advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while the Silverwolves are ranked 73rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
01/24/25 vs Fremont | 10 |
12/27/24 vs Murray | 9 |

11/26/24 vs Clearfield | 8 |
12/19/24 @ Taylorsville | 8 |
Layton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Karter Miller, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten assists. The dominant performance gave Miller a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Chase Randall, who posted 14 points.
Miller wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Layton was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fremont only racked up seven assists.
Meanwhile, Syracuse came up short against Farmington on Friday and fell 66-57. The Titans have struggled against the Phoenix recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Layton will have to contain Carter Robinson as he made an impact in Syracuse's last game. He went 8 for 14 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds. Robinson has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Bradlee Trejo was another key player, going 5 of 10 en route to 13 points.
Syracuse's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Layton, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-3.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Layton hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 74 points per game. However, it's not like Syracuse struggles in that department as they've been averaging 65.2 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Layton beat Syracuse 76-66 when the teams last played on January 10th. The rematch might be a little tougher for Layton since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
