Football Game Preview: Trinidad Miners vs. Ignacio Bobcats

Trinidad is 0-4 against Ignacio since September of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Miners will head out on the road to face off against the Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. Ignacio took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Trinidad, who comes in off a win.

Trinidad took a loss when they played away from home back in September, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 24-6 win over Del Norte. The Miners' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Matthew Garduno was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 103 yards and two scores. CJ Sandoval got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Trinidad was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 259 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.

Another reason for the win was Trinidad's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as five different players picked up one apiece. Sandoval got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Ignacio was beaten by Centauri 48-13 on Saturday. The matchup marked the Bobcats' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Trinidad's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Ignacio, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.

Trinidad took a serious blow against Ignacio in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 53-6. Can the Miners avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
