The Eustis Panthers will face off against the Montverde Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Eustis took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Tavares. The Panthers not only won last Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 28th.
Carson Roden looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Emmy Luke and Brooklyn Powhida did most of the damage at the plate: Luke scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Powhida scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Powhida has posted since back in February. Kendall Kemp was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Montverde Academy made sure to put some runs up on the board against Trinity Catholic on Tuesday. The Eagles put the hurt on the Celtics with a sharp 10-2 victory.
Miranda Murch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Montverde Academy let Luna Taboas and Addison Poe run wild. Taboas scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Poe went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Taboas has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Leila Susaia, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Montverde Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Trinity Catholic only posted a batting average of .250.
Montverde Academy's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Eustis, their win bumped their record up to 11-3.
Both Eustis and Montverde Academy just can't seem to miss. The Panthers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Montverde Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
