Basketball Recap: Drew Starts Season with Win Against Athenian

Drew gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They walked away with a 61-49 win over the Athenian Owls. This was payback for the Dragons, who suffered a 75-59 loss the last time these two teams met.

Drew's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nicholas Ordonez Reyes, who almost dropped a double-double with 26 points and nine assists. Another player making a difference was Rafa Ledesma, who went 7-for-13 to rack up 15 points in addition to five rebounds and four blocks.

Athenian's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Patleo Koffi, who posted 25 points. Eshaan Anand was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Drew wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 55-36 loss against Marin Academy on the 18th. As for Athenian, they will challenge Cristo Rey De La Salle at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
