Baseball Recap: Animo Leadership's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Animo Leadership can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Compton Early College Rising Phoenix a 20-0 shutout. Considering the Aztec Eagles have won four games by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Axel Serrano was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Animo Leadership is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-5 otherwise. Serrano was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Alex Jimenez was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Salvador Lopez, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.

Animo Leadership was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .655. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Animo Leadership's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Compton Early College, they dropped their record down to 0-8 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Animo Leadership will be taking part in a tournament against Hollywood at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Compton Early College, they will host Environmental Charter at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
