Basketball Recap: Michigan City Falls Short of La Porte in the Playoffs

Michigan City and La Porte squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Michigan City had to settle for second. They lost to the La Porte Slicers on the road by a 66-51 margin. The Wolves were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Slicers earlier this season, when they won 74-63.

Despite the defeat, Michigan City had strong showings from Anthony Murphy, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten boards, and Taquerion Vanburen, who almost dropped a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. Murphy's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points.

La Porte's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Griffin Ott-Large led the charge by shooting 63% from the field on his way to 21 points and seven assists. Nic Spence was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds.

The loss snapped Michigan City's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 13-10 record. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points over those games. As for La Porte, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-9.

Michigan City does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for La Porte, they have already played their next match, a 55-39 defeat against South Bend Riley on the 8th.
