Baseball Game Preview: Greenbrier West Cavaliers vs. Midland Trail Patriots

The Greenbrier West Cavaliers will take on the Midland Trail Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.

Greenbrier West fell victim to Nicholas County and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 10-0 to the Grizzlies. The Cavaliers haven't had much luck with the Grizzlies recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Meanwhile, Midland Trail was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Liberty, falling 7-0.

Midland Trail's loss dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Greenbrier West, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.

Greenbrier West's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Cavaliers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Midland Trail, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Greenbrier West continue to outrun the ball?

Greenbrier West took their victory against Midland Trail when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-1 score. Will the Cavaliers repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
