Basketball Recap: Lightridge Comes Up Short

Lightridge has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 55-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the L.C. Bird Skyhawks on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Bolts can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Skyhawks are ranked 33rd).

L.C. Bird's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kamari Simon led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 13 points and nine boards. Simon is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kylie Kent, who shot 60% from the field on her way to 14 points.

Lightridge's loss dropped their record down to 18-10. As for L.C. Bird, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season.

Lightridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for L.C. Bird, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Fleming at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (L.C. Bird has won five straight at home, while Fleming won 11 straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
