Softball Recap: Edgewood Comes Up Short

After soaring to 18 runs the game before, Edgewood was a bit more limited in their game on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Monroe Hornets by a score of 3-1. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Jaycie Broshear spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Edgewood saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Ferrell, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Edgewood's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Monroe, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 5-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Edgewood beat the Hornets by a score of 2-0 on Thursday.
