Baseball Recap: Winnfield Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins at Home

If Winnfield was riding high fresh off their 17-0 takedown of Dodson last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Winnfield fell just short of the Caldwell Parish Spartans by a score of 9-7 on Monday. Tigers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Spartans since on Monday.

Caplan Young was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Winnfield's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 4-1 (and 9-10 when he doesn't). Young was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Young wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Martin, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. Aron Guerrero was another, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Winnfield's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-11. As for Caldwell Parish, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-8.

We've got a battle between Tigers coming up. As for Caldwell Parish, they will take on Vidalia at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Vidalia has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.56 runs per game on average), something Caldwell Parish will no doubt try to take advantage of.
