Newport came tearing into Saturday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.7 points), and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Holy Cross Indians 50-47. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted against the Indians since January 19, 2019.

Yamil Rondon continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 6-for-11 en route to 20 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Griffin Starks, who posted eight points and five boards.

Newport's victory bumped their record up to 19-10. As for Holy Cross, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 17-12.

Coming up, Newport will face off against Lloyd Memorial at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lloyd Memorial knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten contests -- so hopefully Newport likes a good challenge. Holy Cross does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
