Football Recap: Capistrano Valley Skates Past Foothill with Ease

Capistrano Valley barely beat Foothill the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars took their match on Friday with ease, bagging a 42-7 victory over the Knights. That looming 42-7 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cougars yet this season.

It was another big night for Talon Spencer, who threw for 208 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.2% of his passes, and also rushed for 57 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries. Jolan Gonzalez was Spencer's top target, picking up 79 receiving yards and two TDs.

Capistrano Valley's run defense was locked in: Foothill could only muster 2.4 yards per carry. While eight picked up at least one total tackle, Gonzalez stood above the rest. He picked up 79 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Capistrano Valley didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.5.

The win made it two in a row for Capistrano Valley and bumps their season record up to 4-1. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.5 points over those games. As for Foothill, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

After each having a week off, Capistrano Valley and Western will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 952 yards in their previous games. As for Foothill, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Crean Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on October 4. The Saints' defense has only allowed 8.8 points per game this season, so the Knights' offense will have their work cut out for them.
