Basketball Game Preview: Hempstead Mustangs vs. Cedar Falls Tigers

The Hempstead Mustangs are taking a road trip to take on the Cedar Falls Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hempstead has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with seven straight losses, while Cedar Falls will come in with four straight victories.

Last Tuesday, Hempstead came up short against Waterloo West and fell 72-65. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while the Wahawks are ranked 41st).

Meanwhile, Cedar Falls made easy work of Wahlert on Tuesday and carried off an 81-59 win. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Cedar Falls' victory bumped their record up to 16-2. As for Hempstead, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-12.

Hempstead was dealt a bruising 86-39 loss at the hands of Cedar Falls when the teams last played back in February of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Hempstead was down 49-21.
