            Softball Preview: Our Lady of Mercy Academy Villagers vs. Holy Spirit Spartans        
        
		
        
        
            For the first time this season, Our Lady of Mercy Academy will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing at home against the Holy Spirit Spartans  at 3:45  p.m.  on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Our Lady of Mercy Academy is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Lower Cape May. Our Lady of Mercy Academy's pitcher stepped up to hand Lower Cape May  a   16-0 shutout  on Wednesday. The Villagers have beaten the Tigers the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Tigers has come to flipping the script.
 Isabel Quinlan made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound,   not allowing a single  earned run over four innings pitched. Quinlan was also solid in the batter's box,  scoring a  run and  stealing a base while  getting on base  in three of her four plate appearances.
 In other batting news,  Riley Welker was  incredible,  scoring three  runs and  stealing four bases while  getting on base  in all four of her plate appearances.  Devin Powell was another key player,  scoring two  runs and  stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
 Meanwhile, Holy Spirit made easy work of Atlantic Christian  on Wednesday and carried off  an  18-1 win.
 Our Lady of Mercy Academy beat Holy Spirit 8-5  in their previous matchup  back in April of 2024. Will Our Lady of Mercy Academy repeat their success,  or does  Holy Spirit has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
