Baseball Recap: Laquey Takes a Loss

Laquey extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-7. They came up short against the Richland Rebels, falling 17-1. The Hornets were not able to make up for their defeat to the Rebels from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.

As for Richland, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-3. Considering they have won four games by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Richland's part, Ethan Butteris was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Butteris has posted since back in May of 2025. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on London Smith, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with six stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Easton Payne, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Coming up, Laquey will head out to face off against Conway at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Richland, they will challenge Osage at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Indians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.4 runs per game on average), something the Rebels will no doubt try to take advantage of.
