Baseball Game Preview: St. Edmund Fighting Blue Jays vs. St. Martinville Tigers

The St. Edmund Fighting Blue Jays will head out on the road to take on the St. Martinville Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Martinville took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on St. Edmund, who comes in off a win.

St. Edmund's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Port Barre, sneaking past 2-0. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Not much got past Max Smith, who gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Port Barre off the board. Smith also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because St. Edmund is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 12-13 otherwise.

At the plate, St. Edmund saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lannie Reed, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another was David Evans, who scored a run and stole two bases.

Meanwhile, St. Martinville didn't have quite enough to beat Berchmans Academy on Thursday and fell 4-3.

Dixon Aymond was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

St. Martinville's defeat dropped their record down to 11-18. As for St. Edmund, they now have a winning record of 15-14.

Everything went St. Edmund's way against St. Martinville when the teams last played back in April of 2019, as St. Edmund made off with a 19-5 win. Will the Fighting Blue Jays repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
