Basketball Game Preview: Rangeview Raiders vs. Pueblo West Cyclones

The Rangeview Raiders will challenge the Pueblo West Cyclones on Wednesday. Rangeview has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight defeats, while Pueblo West will come in with three straight victories.

Rangeview saw some tournament action on Friday. They fell to Vista PEAK Prep 56-51. That's two games in a row now that the Raiders have lost by exactly five points.

Despite the loss, Rangeview saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Zania Romero-King went 6-for-9 en route to 15 points and four steals. Romero-King also set a new season-high mark in shooting accuracy with 67%. Another player making a difference was Jaya Santana, who posted 11 points.

Meanwhile, Pueblo West got the win against Rampart on Thursday by a conclusive 45-24. Given the Cyclones' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Rams are ranked 225th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pueblo West's win came from a few key players Rangeview will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jamie Suazo, who went 6-for-14 on her way to 15 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. She is becoming a predictor of Pueblo West's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 8-1 (and 4-10 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Odell, who earned seven points along with six boards and six steals.

Pueblo West now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Rangeview, they now have a losing record of 11-12.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Rangeview has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 22.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Pueblo West struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.1 boards.
