Softball Game Preview: Anacoco Indians vs. Pickering Red Devils

The Anacoco Indians will square off against the Pickering Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Anacoco is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Anacoco took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They never let Evans get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Tori Haymon made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over 4.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Jayla Calloway was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two triples, five RBI, and two runs. Those RBI were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sarie Procell, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Pickering lost 18-3 to Zwolle on Saturday. The Red Devils have struggled against the Hawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meetings.

Anacoco's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Pickering, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Anacoco took their victory against Pickering when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 20-2. Does Anacoco have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pickering turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
