Basketball Recap: New Ulm Cathedral Takes a Loss

New Ulm Cathedral lost against Cedar Mountain back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The New Ulm Cathedral Greyhounds lost 74-54 to the Cedar Mountain Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Greyhounds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 286th, while the Cougars are ranked 76th).

Despite the loss, New Ulm Cathedral still got an impressive performance from Colin Anderson, who went 6 of 13 to rack up 17 points. That's the most points Anderson has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jake Finstad, who scored nine points and seven boards.

New Ulm Cathedral's defeat dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Cedar Mountain, they pushed their record up to 18-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, New Ulm Cathedral will welcome Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cedar Mountain, they will venture away from home to take on Wabasso at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Wabasso's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
