It was a proper cat-fight when Mount Vernon challenged Pottsboro on Friday. The Tigers took a 41-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cardinals. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 451st, while the Cardinals are ranked 219th).

Despite the loss, Mount Vernon still got an impressive performance from Dawson Witherspoon, who rushed for 312 yards and five TDs while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Witherspoon is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 304 every time he's taken the field this season.

Pottsboro had a senior duo take command as Zavier Brady picked up 161 receiving yards and one touchdown and Garrett Dorris picked up 53 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Having lost for the first time this season, Mount Vernon fell to 2-1. As for Pottsboro, they now also have a winning record of 2-1.
