Baseball Recap: Caverna Extends Winning Streak to Two

Five must be Caverna's lucky number: they beat Russellville with that score not once but twice on Tuesday. The Colonels never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 5-0 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-4 on Tuesday.

Connor Ray made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple.

In other batting news, Taviane Alexander was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Zandon Corn also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Caverna and bumps their season record up to 2-15. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Russellville, they dropped their record down to 1-14 with the loss, which was their 29th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Caverna will host Trinity at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Colonels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Russellville, they will take on Fort Campbell at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
