Basketball Game Preview: Gretna East Griffins vs. Elkhorn North

The Gretna East Griffins will take on Elkhorn North at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Gretna East is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.5 points per game this season.

Gretna East easily dispatched Lincoln Northwest on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Gretna East fell just short of Norris by a score of 54-51 on Friday. The matchup marked the Griffins' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Jake Hawley, who went 7 for 10 on his way to 17 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Talan Hovie, who posted 13 points and five assists.

Meanwhile, Elkhorn North faced Skutt Catholic in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. Elkhorn North had just enough and edged Skutt Catholic out 69-67. Winning may never get old, but Elkhorn North sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.

Elkhorn North's victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.3 points per game. As for Gretna East, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-4.
