Baseball Recap: Mt. Whitney Comes Up Short

Mt. Whitney was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Redwood Rangers. The Pioneers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Rangers from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Damian Garcia was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mt. Whitney saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sawyer Sowers, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double. Mason Sowers also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Mt. Whitney's record is now 4-17. As for Redwood, they have been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.

While Mt. Whitney had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
