Baseball Recap: Columbia Beats Milton Hershey for Their Third Straight Victory

Columbia came out on top against Milton Hershey on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run second inning. The Crimson Tide never let the Spartans get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. The Crimson Tide might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Cameron McClair, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March. John Buzzendore was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Columbia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Milton Hershey only posted an OBP of .125.

The victory (which was Columbia's third in a row) raised their record to 10-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Milton Hershey, they dropped their record down to 1-11 with the loss, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Columbia will head out to challenge Lancaster Catholic at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Crusaders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Crimson Tide's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Milton Hershey, they will venture away from home to take on York County Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Milton Hershey is facing York County Tech at the right time seeing as York County Tech is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
