Baseball Recap: Avon Lake Drops Highest Score of Season Against Elyria

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Avon Lake). They blew past the Elyria Pioneers 14-4 on Tuesday. While the Shoremen didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-15-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Brayden Poltrone tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Avon Lake got a massive performance out of Owen Fach, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that Fach has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Alex Hicov, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Avon Lake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elyria only posted a batting average of .211.

Avon Lake pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Elyria, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Avon Lake will face off against Dublin Coffman at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Elyria, they will take on Fostoria at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
