Baseball Game Preview: Lima Senior Spartans vs. Clay Eagles

Lima Senior hasn't had much luck against Clay recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Spartans are taking a road trip to square off against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m.

Lima Senior is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Friday. They fell 7-3 to Ada.

Lima Senior saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Wright, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Clay had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since April 24th.

Landon Eversman was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Darin Fussell, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Brannan Vargas was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Clay hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.

Clay's record is now 16-9. As for Lima Senior, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-19.

Lima Senior might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Clay when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
