Softball Game Preview: Council Grove Braves vs. Wabaunsee Chargers

The Council Grove Braves will head out on the road to take on the Wabaunsee Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Council Grove is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.

Council Grove is headed into the matchup having just suffered their closest loss since May 5, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Remington by a score of 4-2.

Council Grove saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jalynn Glacken, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Wabaunsee gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Jefferson County North as they made off with an 18-11 victory. Considering Wabaunsee has won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Wabaunsee got a massive performance out of Kendra Conrad, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. That home run marked the first that Conrad has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Wegele, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.

Wabaunsee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.

Wabaunsee's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-7. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.7 runs over those games. As for Council Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Council Grove has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Wabaunsee struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
