Baseball Game Preview: Tornillo Coyotes vs. Hanks Knights

The Tornillo Coyotes will take on the Hanks Knights at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Tornillo is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 13-3 margin over Irvin on Tuesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Coyotes as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Jeter Luna was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Josue Chuca was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Isaac Varela, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Hanks was able to grind out a solid win over Chapin on Tuesday, taking the game 15-11. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.

Hanks' victory bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Tornillo, their win bumped their record up to 2-7.

Tornillo suffered a grim 10-1 defeat to Hanks when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Tornillo avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
