Baseball Game Preview: Manual Thunderbolts vs. DSST: Montview Knights

Manual hasn't had much luck against DSST: Montview recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:15 p.m. Manual is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

Manual made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Thornton, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Manual never let Thornton get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory last Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Thunderbolts.

Leo Zimmerman was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.6 strikeouts per game. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. He has become a key player for Manual: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Edgar Salas, who scored four runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-4. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Jesus Marquez was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Manual always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .721. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, DSST: Montview beat Arrupe Jesuit 4-0 last Friday.

DSST: Montview's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Manual, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
