Recap: Marianna Bulldogs vs. Gadsden County Jaguars
Even though the Gadsden County Jaguars scored an imposing 61 points on Wednesday, the Marianna Bulldogs still came out on top. Marianna took down Gadsden County 77-61. Given Marianna's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 74th, while Gadsden County is ranked 351st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tra'jan Spears continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 7 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 40 points and 0 assists. The game was his seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Erik Gammons, who scored 18 points.
Despite the loss, Gadsden County still got an impressive performance from Nasir Williams, who dropped a triple-double on 18 points, 20 rebounds, and ten steals. Williams is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jamari Mosley, who scored 28 points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Gadsden County were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Marianna's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Gadsden County, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.
Marianna is on the road again on Thursday and play against Rickards at 8:00 p.m. on December 21st. One thing working in Rickards' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matchups. Gadsden County won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Maclay at 10:00 a.m. on December 21st.
