Basketball Game Preview: Houston County Bears vs. Veterans Warhawks

The Houston County Bears will face off against the Veterans Warhawks at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Houston County sitting on nine straight wins and Veterans on three.

Last Saturday, Houston County beat Northside 58-50. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Eagles are ranked 232nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Veterans beat Jones County 41-36 on Saturday.

Veterans' win came from a few key players Houston County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Tristen Abner, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. He has been hot, having posted ten or more boards the last five times he's played. Jaivyon Dawson was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Houston County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Veterans, their record now sits at 12-7.

Houston County strolled past Veterans in their previous meeting last Saturday by a score of 56-39. The rematch might be a little tougher for Houston County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
