Softball Game Preview: Paetow Panthers vs. Katy Tigers

Paetow hasn't had much luck against Katy recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Panthers will look to defend their home field against the Tigers at 6:15 p.m.

Paetow fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Seven Lakes on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 4-3 to the Spartans, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

ABIGAIL MARTINAK spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.

On the hitting side, Paetow saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was KYRA PENNYWELL, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Katy came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.1 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Warriors a 10-0 shutout. The Tigers' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three contests.

Katy pushed their record up to 28-1 with the win, which was their 32nd straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Paetow, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-15.
