Baseball Recap: Sunrise Mountain Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Sunrise Mountain extended their winning streak to three on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 18-10 in the process. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Liberty Lions 3-1. For the Mustangs, this counts as revenge for the 4-3 victory the Lions walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Ethan Dinnell looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Chase Heid, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Sunrise Mountain: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jorge Campillo, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Liberty, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-11 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 2.33 runs.

On Liberty's side, Garrett Theile was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits.

At the plate, Liberty saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hunter Kuczkowski, who went 1-for-2 with one run. Marley Chancey also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Sunrise Mountain has already played their next matchup, a 5-1 win against Casa Grande on the 30th. As for Liberty, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 7-3 victory against Shadow Ridge on the 28th.
