Basketball Game Preview: Sunrise Mountain Miners vs. Pahrump Valley Trojans

Sunrise Mountain hasn't had much luck against Pahrump Valley recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Sunrise Mountain Miners are taking a road trip to face off against the Pahrump Valley Trojans at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Sunrise Mountain played against Mojave and won via forfeit.

Pahrump Valley took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas by a score of 49-40. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Trojans as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Pahrump Valley found their leader in sophomore Riley Saldana, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 17 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Saldana has scored at least a third of Pahrump Valley's points. Another player making a difference was Ryleigh Denton, who posted 16 points along with seven boards and four steals.

Pahrump Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Pahrump Valley's record is now 9-12. As for Sunrise Mountain, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-11 record this season.

Sunrise Mountain might still be hurting after the 57-31 loss they got from Pahrump Valley in their previous meeting back in February of 2020. Can Sunrise Mountain avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
