Softball Recap: Maricopa Comes Up Short

Maricopa dropped their record down to 12-11-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Vista Grande Spartans by a score of 7-6. The Rams were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Spartans earlier this season, when they won 9-8.

Elizabeth Deupree put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three runs.

Deupree wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Madelyn Hunt, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Another was Ariana Calderon, who went 3-for-4 with one run.

As for Vista Grande, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-13 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games.

On Vista Grande's side, Aaliyah Ramos was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was Ramos' first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Hernandez, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

Maricopa didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-0 loss against Casa Grande on the 22nd. As for Vista Grande, they have also already played their next match, a 16-0 defeat against Mountain View on the 22nd.
