Softball Game Preview: Houston County Fighting Irish vs. Hickman County Bulldogs

Houston County is a perfect 3-0 against Hickman County since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Fighting Irish will challenge the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. Houston County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

While Houston County's victory against Northwest wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Fighting Irish sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over the Vikings on Wednesday. The Fighting Irish haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Brilee Anderson made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over 6.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Houston County got a big performance out of Preslee Moore, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Peyton Brooks, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Houston County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northwest struck out eight times.

Meanwhile, Hickman County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 25th straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 5-1 to Harpeth.

The win got Houston County back to even at 6-6. As for Hickman County, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9.

Houston County took their victory against Hickman County in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 13-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Fighting Irish since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
