Football Recap: Troup Starts off Right with Win over Shelbyville

Troup had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 56-14 victory over the Shelbyville Dragons. For the Tigers, this counts as revenge for the 53-40 win the Dragons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.

Troup's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Josh Childress, who threw for 250 yards and four TDs on only 18 passes, and also rushed for 41 yards and one score. Those 250 passing yards gave Childress a new career-high. Brett Wells was another key rusher, gaining 135 total yards and three touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Troup was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 215 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 192 rushing yards in 13 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Troup's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Caden Starkey was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself. Wells got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Coming up, Troup will take on Edgewood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,076 yards in their previous games. As for Shelbyville, they will challenge New Boston at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
