Basketball Recap: Plantation Takes a Loss

After flying high against Piper last Thursday, Plantation came back down to earth. The Plantation Colonels were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 69-68 to the St. Mary's Spartans.

Plantation's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jabari Washington, who posted 18 points and eight rebounds. With that strong performance, Washington is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Sahmaj Alcime was another key player, putting up 20 points.

Even though they lost, Plantation smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Plantation has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.6 points per game. As for St. Mary's, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1.

Plantation wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 90-65 victory against TERRA Environmental on the 26th. As for St. Mary's, they will host KIPP Academy Lynn Collegiate at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
