Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Marisia Hansen and Leatula'i Pututau Lead West to Victory

West posted their closest win since October 3, 2024 on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Draper APA Eagles. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 2-0 win the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2023.

If you add up the scores from across all five sets (101-91) West actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. The final score came out to 25-20, 10-25, 25-18, 16-25, 15-13.

West was led to victory by Leatula'I Pututau and Marisia Hansen. Pututau had 35 digs and two aces, while Hansen had 25 assists and five digs. Those 25 assists gave Hansen a new career-high.

Despite the loss, Draper APA had strong showings from Evie Martinez, who had 28 digs and two aces, and Paisley Le, who had eight digs.

West has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. As for Draper APA, their record is now 1-1.

Looking ahead, West will face off against Spanish Fork at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Draper APA, they have already played their next contest, a 2-0 victory against Judge Memorial Catholic on the 15th.
