Basketball Game Preview: St. Augustine Yellow Jackets vs. Nease Panthers

St. Augustine hasn't had much luck against Nease recently, but that could start to change on Friday. Having just played yesterday, the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets will get right back to it and host the Nease Panthers at 7:30 p.m.

On Thursday, St. Augustine came up short against Ponte Vedra and fell 44-33.

Meanwhile, Nease narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Episcopal School of Jacksonville 45-43.

Nease's win came from a few key players St. Augustine will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Langston Hackworth, who posted 12 points and eight rebounds. Chase Phifer was another key player, putting up ten points and seven boards.

Nease is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a massive bump to their 9-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.8 points per game. As for St. Augustine, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-3.

St. Augustine was able to grind out a solid win over Nease in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, winning 43-33. Will St. Augustine repeat their success, or does Nease have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
