Preview: New Milford Green Wave vs. Stratford Red Devils
Having just played yesterday, the New Milford Green Wave will head out on the road to face off against the Stratford Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. New Milford has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 16.
On Thursday, New Milford came up short against Pomperaug and fell 59-48.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jacob Czupkowski, who scored nine points along with 12 rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that he posted two or more blocks. Ryder Gee was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Even though they lost, New Milford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Stratford suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They were the victim of a tough 66-40 defeat at the hands of New Fairfield. While losing is never fun, Stratford can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while New Fairfield is ranked 45th).
New Milford bumped their record down to 2-7 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Stratford, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
New Milford was able to grind out a solid win over Stratford in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 45-35. The rematch might be a little tougher for New Milford since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
