Softball Game Preview: Weslaco Panthers vs. Edinburg North Cougars

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Weslaco Panthers challenge Edinburg North Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Edinburg North will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Weslaco extended their winning streak to nine on Tuesday. The Panthers blew past La Joya 19-2.

Meanwhile, Edinburg North got the win against Economedes on Tuesday by a conclusive 11-1. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Jaguars recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Destany Bermudez was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Bermudez was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Caylee Ramirez was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Kyla Rodriguez was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Weslaco pushed their record up to 13-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Edinburg North, their victory bumped their record up to 20-6-1.

Weslaco was able to grind out a solid win over Edinburg North in their previous matchup back in March, winning 4-0. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
