Football Recap: East Burke Takes a Loss

If East Burke was feeling good fresh off their 36-0 takedown of Patton last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cavaliers had to suffer through a 37-8 loss at the hands of the Hibriten Panthers. The loss continues a trend for the Cavaliers in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost seven in a row.

Carter Bennett threw for 120 yards on 14 of 29 attempts. RJ Williams was his top target, picking up 39 receiving yards. On the ground, Ossie Burkeen rushed for 71 yards on only nine carries.

Hibriten's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Elan Lipford led the charge by throwing for 225 yards and two touchdowns while completing 78.6% of his passes, and also rushing for 71 yards on only eight carries. Dk Mitchell also helped with two TDs in total.

East Burke's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Hibriten, they pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Looking ahead, East Burke will square off against West Caldwell at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Hibriten, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Chase at 7:30 p.m. The Panthers will be up against the Trojans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 26.6 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
