Baseball Recap: Rodriguez Snags Seventh Win in Last Eight Games

Rodriguez had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt River City on Tuesday. The Mustangs blew past the Raiders 12-2. Considering the Mustangs have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Nick Schikore spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Tavin Schmidt and Drew Beasley did most of the damage at the plate: Schmidt went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Beasley got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Schmidt a new career-high. Jack Jacobson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Rodriguez hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.

Rodriguez has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for River City, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11-1 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Rodriguez beat River City by a score of 11-8 on Thursday.
